Sazerac is the flagship rye of the eponymous group. It owes its name to the cocktail of the same name, invented in 1850 in Thomas H. Handy's Sazerac Coffee House, in New Orleans. After his death in 1893, the business taken over by his form secretary C.J. O'Reilly who was founded the Sazerac Company and produced rye until prohibition. The brand was revived in 1998 and has since been one of the group's leading products. It is produced at the Buffalo Trace distillery. Sazerac Rye 18-Year-Old is part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, which also includes William Larue Weller, Georges T. Stagg, Thomas H. Handy, and Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old.
